Hi.

“In this life you will have trouble, but fear not, I have overcome the world.”

This world and the part we play in it is beautiful. Yes, there is brokenness, but I want to look for the beauty of our redemption in it. The Lord has made all things new, even as He is in the process of making us new.

Join me in looking for the beauty in life through thoughts and poems. I am so glad you are here.

When good things happen

Have you ever had a moment where you thought “This just can’t be happening”?  I think we all have had times that we think “this is just too good to be true.”

In all of life’s hard times, there are these moments of complete surprise.  Moments where a prayer is answered yes and we jump for joy.  Or prayers that we were too scared to pray are affirmed.  Those moments where you don’t want to blink for fear that it will disappear.

In moments like that I feel unworthy.  So unworthy it is hard for me to truly believe that it is true.  I sit and prepare for what I feel is inevitable, when I found out there is a catch.  Or that I misunderstood.  The moment I find out that the blessing isn’t actually mine for the having.

There will always be moments of disappointment in our lives.  Following Jesus does not mean that we get all that we desire.  Health and wealth and any blessing we ask for.  In many instances, the answer to our prayer will be a gentle “No”  because He loves us too much to give us everything we ask for.  His plan and provision go beyond the desires of our heart.  It is always for our good.

But sometimes, the answer to our prayers is “yes”.  God knows our hearts deeply, and will answer the prayers we are too scared to pray.  Or He will fulfill the desires we didn’t even know we had.

Those moments, just as much as the other moments, are times for celebration!  God deserves our praise and gratitude when the answer is no, but He loves to rejoice with us when His answer is yes!

The temptation to feel unworthy is strong.  The small voice will whisper in your ear that you are not worth it.  Or that it can’t be as good as it seems.  Silence that voice.  Turn to the Lord in praise.  Do not allow your doubt and insecurity to steal sweet moment of praise and celebration with the giver of all good things.  Blessings are sweet gifts from God.  And even more than the gift itself, is the opportunity to turn back to God and give Him the praise He deserves because of them. Let us not rob ourselves of those moments.

Faith is to trust that God is who He says He is.  He withholds nothing good from us.  And He will not give in to our pleading for things that are not for our good.  He does not give and take away to manipulate or punish.  He does not give and them let that gift fall to waste out of neglect.  He is a good Father.  A generous provider.  A gracious and merciful Savior and sustainer.

So enjoy those moments.  Soak it in.  Take the opportunity to turn back to the creator of the universe.  Remember who He is.  These moments are gifts to reveal the magnificent love of the Father for His children.  The gracious provision of a Father that has nothing to gain.  Do not let anything steal that joy.
