Hi.

“In this life you will have trouble, but fear not, I have overcome the world.”

This world and the part we play in it is beautiful. Yes, there is brokenness, but I want to look for the beauty of our redemption in it. The Lord has made all things new, even as He is in the process of making us new.

Join me in looking for the beauty in life through thoughts and poems. I am so glad you are here.

Desire to Create

Isn’t the world such a beautiful place?!  At the risk of sounding cliche, the world is such a beautiful and diverse place.  From mountains, to beaches, to deserts, and glaciers… the beauty is so unique and different.  But even more beautiful is the uniqueness and creativity of its people.  Everyone is different.  Everyone is creative.  It just comes out differently.  Some paint or sing, some communicate or solve complicated math problems, some entertain kids or take on employment issues.  All of these things take some level of creativity. To create or communicate something that wasn’t there before.

So many express themselves in beautiful ways.  People dance and play and weave.  They Create.  They expressed.  They experience.

Deep inside of all of us is something that needs to be expressed.  We have something that needs to be let out.  An emotion or a story that is bottled up deep within our soul waiting to get.  I am pretty confident that most of us don’t even quite know what it is until it is released.

It’s not just a coincidence.  I believe we were created with a need to express.  A need to communicate.  To tell a story.  All of our forms of creativity are just an outlet for the song that is longing to be released.

Some want to try and tell their own story.  To choreograph their own dance for their own fame.  Some just create for the relief of the release.  So that the expression welling up inside, the unnamed idea swirling through your soul, can be delivered into the light.  No longer banging around inside your rib cage begging to get out.  But tangible, external, present to mold and hem and tweak.

But it’s not long before the urge hits you again.  To sing out loud, to run a few miles, to spin a pottery wheel, to write a verse.

Why?  Because those things while beautiful, are very temporal.  They are here for a moment and then whisked away.  And you are left wanting again.  There is still a piece of the story untold.  A tiny leftover shoot growing into maturity once again inside your spirit.

For me the frustration came, because I feel the words deep down to my toes.  An idea that just won’t leave me alone.  Need to express… but I am just never sure how.  Feet pumping against the pavement doesn’t release it.  The notes that come from my unexercised voice don’t have enough power.  The movement of my limb in dance just doesn’t feel powerful enough.  My words on the paper get all jumbled together, tripping one after another without making any sense.  Or maybe they make sense, but there is just always something missing from the story.

I look at others and long to express myself the way they do.  To be satisfied with the outward expression of the inward self.  To say exactly what I meant, or create exactly what is inside.

This need is not something new to man.  It has been there since the beginning of time.  Since the moment that dust became flesh and rib became soul, we were made for worship.  To respond to the glory of God.  To use our gifts and talents as an offering to the Lord.  To speak of His majesty and express our gratitude to the Creator of all things.

We are made with a song inside.  And those who are children of Christ know that our song is meant to be directed back to the one created melody and rhythm and art.  He completes our desires and defines our expression.

The beauty of our desires here on earth is that God continues to give us a longing until His return.  Our desires can’t be satisfied in any lesser thing.  He will not allow us to settle for anything less.  Christ’s death on the cross satisfies all our desires and secures us for Heaven.  But until the day we will keep being drawn continually towards Him.  And in Heaven our longings will be constantly satisfied because we will eternally be in His presence bringing Him glory.

So I hope that in Heaven, God will let me dance for His glory, sing for His glory.  That our desires, our expression, and even our creativity will be perfected and fulfilled.  Because we will be in the presence of the object of our desires eternally.

I cannot wait for the day when we will have no more unmet longings, no more frustrations, no more comparison or jealousy, no more failures.
