God's Voice
I asked to hear God’s voice
And He spoke to me
He sounded like the rustle of pages
He sounded like prophesy
And poetry
And prose
I asked him to start at the beginning
He said “I am beginning”
But He told me of creation
Of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
He told me of Isaiah
And sang me psalms of David
He told me of prophesies
Both of the past and the future
Then He told me about His Son
God incarnate
Birth, life
Death, and resurrection
And He told me
That while death had been defeated
Soon all will be put underneath His feet
“But God,” I said, “what is Your will?’
He said, “ Now this is eternal life:
that they know you,
the only true God, and Jesus Christ,
whom you have sent’
“But what about for me?” I said.
“Rejoice always,
pray continually,
give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”
I asked to hear God’s voice
And I heard it as clear as words on the page
And I carried it in my heart
And leather bound in my hand
And whenever I heard a voice
I matched it to what He gave
He made His Word known
He lets us hear His voice
The voice that has been unchanging
Since the beginning of time
