Silent Night
The night was silent
or so it is said
As the Heaven’s waited in anticipation
Much of the world had given up waiting
And hope became more of a wish than a promise
Because who is good at waiting patiently
Much less expectantly
Did this silence feel different?
Did the world stand still for just a moment?
Or did the hustle and bustle
Meant to endure the waiting
Numb the anticipation
Distract from the expectation
Crowd out the subtle signs
When they should have been on watch
Had their preparation over taken the celebration
Did anyone notice the at this night was different
Or did man go about their business
As if it was just another night
While the Heavenly Host sang in the sky
Do we miss it too?
Crowding out the expectation
With stress and plans and things
Instead of preparing Him room
Do we miss the triumphant arrival
Because we have forgotten
what it means to wait
When we prepare Him room
We replace silence for celebration
We choose joy at the promise
And not disappointment in the process
And chose to praise the One
Who came to break expectations
And defeat death for good
