Inconvenience
“We are dropping off some coffee and donuts at your door. We can just put it on the doorstep. Just wanted to give you a pick me up.”
A friend sent this text on the second morning of solo parenting while my husband was away for a conference.
“You really don’t have to” I started to type out, but paused and erased the message, opting for “Thank you! That is so kind.”
………………………………
I am learning that relationship grows on the other side of
I don’t want to bother
I don’t want to overstep
I don’t want to inconvenience
Relationships deepen
Not only with “I’d like to help”
But with “I need help”
Friendship is strengthened when you don’t have to say
“Sorry, it’s been busy lately”
But also when you can drop everything for a five minute phone call
Connection comes
When you lean in
And allow others in at the same time
Connections comes with give and take
Not just take
But not just give
Let the language of our friendships be
Generous with offers and requests
With tears and with smiles
Let us believe the best
In our presence and our absence
Let us inconvenience and be inconvenienced
With joy and hospitality
Let us be loving
not only polite
Kind not only nice
Let us be friends that stand closer than a brother
In good times and bad times
Knowing the bad will always give way to good
Being made better by the valleys that we traveled together
