Gratitude in the time of Covid
Deepest gratitude comes when it appears little to be grateful
When it’s easier to differentiate wants and needs
Where is the thankfulness when hospitals are full
Holidays are cancelled
and family is far away
Where is thankfulness
When jobs are few
Money is tight
And food can be scarce
Where is thankfulness
When you feel betrayed by your neighbor,
Your country, or your body
Thankfulness is found when your world crumbles
Yet beauty shines through
When you find yourself lacking
Yet you find the Lord faithful and abundant
That beauty abounds in grace and faith
Not in the grind and the revenue
So our cups were emptied
And hopefully filled anew
With faith the brings gratitude
There may be a shorter list
In our thankfulness
Because it has become void
Of stuff and things and experiences
But in the space
Grew gratefulness
That seeps in and fills the gaps
And suffocates all the hollow tenets
That took residency there
Like useless happy meal toys
Filling up the toy box
What remains is precious and sacred
What remains will remain
