O, Come let us adore Him
While there is lots of debate on when it is acceptable to decorate for Christmas, beginning November 30th, it seems like everyone gets on the same page. The lights come out, the trees are decorated, and the Christmas decor transforms our homes and world into a Winter wonderland. The twinkle lights and festive music do wonders for lightening our hearts this time of year.
But while we can transform so much of what is around us, life doesn’t stop once the Christmas movies start playing on the Hallmark channel.
The reminder of Christ’s humanity has made me more aware of His willingness to enter into our day to day needs and questions. In many ways it gives me comfort as I bring Him my stresses and worries and weaknesses. He is not repelled by them. He was motivated by them to come toward us. Even to come to a very imperfect world, and experience more suffering than we can imagine.
He is delighted when we come to Him, without discrimination as to our approach. He is delighted to enter into our daily struggles and worries. He is more than willing to meet our cry for wisdom, strength, help, and peace.
But as often as I go to Him lately, I realized I have not come to Him in adoration.
He is more than willing to meet us in our pain or mundane. He entered in as a baby on Christmas morning.
But in our mundane or pain, we are also invited to put that aside and worship Him. To delight in who He is all on His own outside of His presence in our lives.
O Come let us adore Him.
Let us come to Him in our need. Our weakness. Our questions. Our joy. Our hurt.
But also let us set aside time to gaze at Him just for His sake.
He is worthy of adoration. He is worthy of wonder and delight.
