The Night was Silent
The night was silent
or so it is said
As the Heaven’s waited in anticipation
Much of the world had given up waiting
The silence had dragged on
Longer than they had hoped
And hope became more of a wish than a promise
But did this silence feel different
Less void, more vibrant
This was a silence that filled your ears
Straining for something not yet known
Did the world stand still for just a moment?
Did breath catch in their chest?
Did the air feel different after it had passed
through the lungs of God incarnate?
His cry carrying with it a familiar melody
That made every heart sing for just a moment
The universe burst in song
To join with the heavenly chorus
That rejoiced His coming
Even as it meant leaving the Heaven’s
And walking a sorrowful life on earth
They chose joy at the promise
And not disappointment in the process
And chose to praise the One
Who came to break expectations
And defeat death for good
So the whole of creation waited in eager anticipation
With breath held in their lungs
Breathing a sigh
Knowing that nothing would ever be the same
