Revival in Our Midst
Over the past few days, the news of the Asbury Revival has swept through. Despite some skepticism, the reports seem to describe a sweet genuine spirit of revival. A hunger for the presence of God.
God in His kindness has a set His sweet presence on these students, and the presence of God is irresistible. As seen by the droves of people flying and driving to the campus to experience just a glimpse of what is happening there.
I am no expert on the workings of the Spirit. My consideration of Him has been limited for many years of my life. Only in the past few recent years have I repented of a very “pick myself up by my boot straps” mentality, and really confessed the need for the Spirit to be at work in my life. I was saved, and the Spirit was sanctifying for decades, but I was so resistant to His work. Deep down believing that I had to put in enough effort to earn the help of the Spirit. We all have our own sanctification journey.
While the Revival at Asbury is truly a miraculous encounter with God, a gift to our generation, I also think it’s such a sweet reminder.
We want to see that revival happen where we are. Maybe some of us might be asking, “why not here?” Some of us might be asking “why not in me?”
Many of us, myself included, may be thinking “Have it not prayed? Have I not asked the Spirit to show up? Have I not asked the Lord to work? Why not in me?”
Let this be a kind reminder of what the Spirit does. He meets with us. He shows up. We do not do anything to earn it. We cannot prepare or plan for it. We cannot manufacture it in our own right.
But the same Spirit that is at Asbury is with us. Is in us! He is revealing Himself to us in every moment. Maybe this might be a wake up call to remind us that if we don’t see Him, it is not Him that has left. Maybe we just stopped looking for Him. Maybe we stopped coming to Him. Maybe we stopped expecting Him to show up.
The same God that is at Asbury, was in the Tabnernacle. He was on Mount Sinai, He was at Pentecost.
He is desiring to meet with us in our churches, on our campuses, in our homes. And maybe most importantly, in the quietness of our own hearts.
Let this be our reminder, that all we have to do is invite Him in. “He stands at the door and knocks.”
And when we think He is not working, let us remember…
He can
He will
He has
And
He is.
